The site water balance necessitates a 75L/s RO plant with brine treatment fed from a 1Mm3 Impacted Water Pond (IWP). An emergency 60L/s mobile plant was also deployed as a short term measure. This plant will be utilized in the region for future water treatment requirements.
Project Timeline
Phases
Pre-feasibility Engineering
During pre-feasibility, the basic technology selection to treat sulphate, ammonia and nitrate was completed. RO was already selected as the primary treatment technology. The technologies evaluation focused on membrane selection, pH adjustment, permeate recycle, and breakpoint chlorination. The final technology selection indicated that all foreseeable ammonia and nitrate levels could be treated with a combination of the correct membranes and permeate recycle.
Feasibility Engineering
Project deliverables were developed to support the client investment system. Process engineering was advanced to 80% and deliverables included P&ID’s, engineering lists, process descriptions and various philosophies.
Execution services
2020 - 2021. During this stage Miwatek worked with the client’s Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) consultant to execute the project. Miwatek developed P&ID’s, detailed engineering documents, bid evaluations, construction support and commissioned the plant. An emergency 60L/s mobile plant was deployed to supplement the main plant capacity.
Operation and Maintenance
2021 - Present. Miwatek was appointed to operate and maintain the plant. A team of 12 operates and maintains the plant on a 24hr basis.
